2018
The first Annual Meihodo International Youth Visual Media Festival was held in Fukuoka, Japan, from November 6, 2018, to November 7, 2018. More than 320 works were submitted from students from 12 Chinese colleges and universities, including Beijing Film Academy and nine Japanese colleges and universities, including Tokyo University of the Arts. Among them, 31 won awards.“Swimming Home,”a drama directed by Yiyu Wang, a graduate of the Beijing Film Academy, won the highest honor of the first film festival, the Meihodo Grand Prize of ¥1 million ($10K).
2019
The second Annual Meihodo International Youth Visual Media Festival was held in Fukuoka, Japan, from August 28, 2019, to August 29, 2019. More than 340 works were submitted from students from 18 Chinese colleges and universities, including Beijing Film Academy and Central Academy of Drama; seven colleges and universities in Japan, including the Art Department of Japan University, Film Studies Department of Tokyo University of the Arts; 41 colleges and universities in the United States such as Harvard University, New York University, Parsons School of Design; and 67 colleges and universities in Vietnam like Ho Chi Minh University. In the end, 37 entries were awarded prizes.“The South and the Gun”by Yuxing Li, a graduate of the Beijing Film Academy, won the Meihodo Grand Prize, the highest honor of the second annual festival.
2020
Each annual festival carries a theme. In 2020, the theme was centered on an unforgettable period. We asked creators to share a glimpse of everyday life during the pandemic, and we received 2,309 submissions from 102 countries. The 2020 committee consisted of 30 judges from 12 nations. They handpicked 655 official selections, 124 prestigious works, and 25 award winners across four separate categories. The Grand Prize was awarded to Iranian director Komeil Soheili for his short film “Coexist.” In all, a total of 68 entries received more than $150,000 in prizes.
2021
Last year, The Fourth Annual Meihodo International Youth Visual Media Festival focused on innovation and exploring the brave new world of the future, with cryptocurrency and NFTs as newly added components. It was organized through Meihodo’s U.S. headquarters in New York City, sponsored by Meihodo Short Film Productions and Meihodo New York Inc. A total of 2431 submissions from 110 different countries and regions. 18 Award winning works were chosen, with the Grand Prize awarded to German director Andre Diwisch for his short film Refugee by Mistake. In all a total of 150,000 USD were presented to the respective winners.
